Welcome to our brand new blog! We're so excited for our fifth year of camp - youth who were campers in year one are now counselors and junior counselors. And it is unbelievable how much Columbia Gorge Peace Village has grown since its debut in 2008! This year, 105 campers will join our staff of twenty (and countless volunteers) for five fun-filled days at our home-base, the Mosier Community School.
The theme for this year is "Connectedness." At the end of last year, we asked for feedback and ideas for Peace Village 2012. Many of the campers, parents, and staff all reported an interest in developing resources to address bullying issues. We decided that by exploring different ways of connecting and communicating, we could provide our kids with creative tools and solutions to be employed in a variety of situations. All campers will participate in big group games, food preparation and clean-up, and a Peace Village core curriculum. Campers will also get to make their own activity choices each day, so they can experience what interests them most. We'll be introducing some fun new activities this year, including musical theatre, Peace Jam, flower "bombs", Great Story beads, and food-related projects exploring health, earth-care, local economics, and energy use. Of course, we'll also revisit old favorites like art, earth connections, sewing, drumming, yoga, and ceramics! Be sure to check in with our blog and website, especially during camp week, to get updates, view photos, and hear from the staff! See you on August 6th!
