Dear Peace Village campers, parents, volunteers, sponsors, and families, Peace Village planning committees have been meeting all spring, and volunteers have been pouring their hearts into making Columbia Gorge Peace Village 2013 the most fun and inspiring yet. We're eagerly counting down the days until we reunite for another great Peace Village gathering. Here are some updates from each of our committees: Curriculum and Activities Team: We're lining up an exciting fun-filled menu of activities, including The Art of Movement, introducing Aikido to the kids, Wild Dance, songs with Mandy, and Fort Building in our Village Fair offerings. Peaceful approaches to conflict resolution will weave their way through camp in a hands-on, hats-off creative theatre slot and a return of Peace Heroes. The People Team: Out of 150 possible camper spots, 133 are filled. This means there are 17 more spots for possible campers. Sign up now! We have posted camp information on GorgeKids.com and in the The Dalles Chronicle. We have a great, full team of wonderful counselors, most of them returning from previous years. We will have a few meetings for counselors to get to know each other and bond before camp starts. Childcare volunteers are planning special activities for the little ones. Food Team: The Food Crew is fully embracing the season with freshness, lightness, clarity, and health! We are thinking about our world and what peace means to each of us and how we express ourselves through our food and food choices. This year's focus on food is sourcing, gathering, communing and, of course, enjoying freely. With the addition of the Adult Service this year we hope to get families to gather together to pick and prepare in community, like the olden days. We envision fun, simple, and easy tasks that young and old can accomplish together along side one another. We are really looking forward to our gathering and cooking parties! Please join us. We think it will be fun. We are lining up super cool food sources for ingredients that are such high quality, we believe that we won't have to fiddle with them very much. The food will speak for itself! We are creating simple, ethnic-inspired menu choices that should be nourishing and tasty for everyone. We hope to reduce waste even more this year…hard to beat last year's efforts. Logistics team: The Logistics team is lining up supplies, cutting wood cookie name tags, ordering t-shirts and finding First Aid volunteers. Financial Team: Fundraising is going full steam. We still have funds to raise – want to help? Donate? Or have an idea for us? Let us know. Volunteers Still Needed: Find a shift and task that's right for you!
