Camper Information Parent Letter 2017
Think you signed up a camper, but didn't receive this email? Please search your email folders, we are probably hiding in a spam or promotions folder.
Dear Parents,
Columbia Gorge Peace Village is almost a week away! This is our 10th year of camp! We are looking forward to playing and creating peace with your child at camp. This email contains information about the camp week, what to bring to camp, volunteer information, food, and transportation.
Camp is August 7th-11th, 9:00AM-3:30PM at the Mosier Community School, eight miles east of Hood River off of I-84. You’ll see the school grounds on the right as you drive into town and find parking around back.
What will my child do at camp? Each day campers will go to two of our Core classes: Media Literacy, Earth Connections, Peace Heros, Non-Violent Conflict Resolution, and Mindful Movement. They will also go to Village Fair where they are given a different choice of three classes to try each day in movement, self empowerment, or creative expression.
Kids will experience many different ways to practice Peace Within, Peace Among and Peace Around. As part of our 10th year of Peace Village we will be weaving the life of Peace Hero Minoru “Min” Yasui into our activities. Min Yasui is the only Oregonian to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom and he grew up in Hood River County.
Sign in on Monday will start at 8:45 on the North side of the school. Campers will meet their counselors and the other members of their group here. There will be no camper group switches on Monday. We have worked to balance the groups taking into consideration many important factors. If you camper has a concern about their group, encourage them to get to know their group on Monday. If needed, after Monday our Lead Counselor will assess camper group changes and make adjustments.
What Should my Child Bring to Camp? Please have your child bring a yoga mat or towel to sit on in the grass, water bottle, wear sunscreen, hat, and shoes for outdoor play (no flip flops!). Please label EVERYTHING with your child’s name.
What will my child eat at camp? We will provide daily snacks and lunches to all campers. We are so grateful for our amazing food crew who work hard to provide organic, local choices to us. They provide alternatives for those campers, staff, and volunteers with food sensitivities, allergies, or special needs. It is a difficult to accommodate so many, if your child is very particular about what they eat please feel free to send them with supplemental foods that will keep them nourished and happy all day.
Camp Emergency Contact. If you have an emergency during the week, or need to get a message to the staff, our camp phone contact is Jennifer King (503)621-6896.
Transportation. If you indicated an interest in carpooling or need help with transportation, you should have received an email to connect you with a group in our area or with a driver with extra seats. If you did not receive an email but would like to carpool contact Jennifer King (503)621-6898 or camp@columbiagorgepeacevillage.com.
Question about your Volunteer Service? If you have signed up for a shift or a task, you will get an email very soon. If you still need to sign up, Email Audrey our volunteer coordinator Audrey@columbiagorgepeacevillage.com
Parents Welcome Friday! Mark your calendars for the Closing Ceremony on Friday the 11th from 2:30-3:30pm. Come share in the celebration of our week!
Keep up on the news! We’ll be posting camp updates to our blog, Facebook, and Instagram. Share our Camper Letter Call to Adventure with your camper, and check back during the week for photos, reflections, and videos.
We look forward to seeing you on August 7th!
